Splainer

Ask about your screen. It draws the answer.

Splainer lives at the top of your Windows desktop. Hold Ctrl + Alt, ask about whatever you're looking at, and it explains out loud while pointing, circling and sketching right on top of your apps.

Windows 10 and 11. Free forever with local AI or your own key. That's Splainer at the top of this page, too.

How it works

  1. Ctrl + Alt

    Hold and ask

Talk the way you would to someone sitting next to you. Let go to send. Double-tap Ctrl if you'd rather type.

  2. Looks

    It looks at your screen

Only when you ask, and only the AI you picked sees it. No constant recording.

  3. Draws

    It points, draws and explains

The cursor flies to the right spot, circles it and talks you through it. Ctrl + Alt + X wipes the ink.

What it does

Draws on any app
Arrows, circles, highlights, notes, diagrams and simple 3D shapes, straight over Excel, Figma, your browser or a game.
Talks back
Natural voice answers with a live conversation mode. Interrupt it any time.
Narrated lessons
Ask how something works and get a step-by-step walkthrough you can replay later.
Background tasks
Hand off research, drafts and file work. Splainer keeps going while you do something else.
Dictate anywhere
Ctrl + Alt + D types what you say into any app.
Your choice of AI
Local models, your own key or Splainer Cloud, picked separately for chat, vision and voice.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes, if you run AI on your own PC or use your own key. You only pay your AI provider, and Gemini and Groq have free tiers. Splainer Cloud adds a free monthly allowance with no setup.

Does it record my screen all the time?

No. It looks only when you ask a question about your screen or a task you started needs to see it. The microphone is on only while you hold Ctrl + Alt, unless you turn on hands-free talking.

Which AI does it use?

You choose, separately for chat, image understanding, speech recognition and voice: local servers such as Ollama and LM Studio, a key from OpenAI, Google Gemini, Groq or another compatible service, or Splainer Cloud.

Can it work offline?

Yes, with local models for chat and vision and Windows voices for speech. Browser and connected-account tools still need the internet.

What do I need?

Windows 10 or 11 and a microphone. Local AI runs best with a graphics card that has 8 GB of memory or more.

How do I uninstall it?

From Windows Settings → Apps, like any other app. Your local history stays in your user folder until you delete it.
