Splainer

Privacy policy

Last updated 2 November 2026

Splainer is a Windows app that listens when you ask, looks at your screen when you ask it to, and explains things out loud. This policy explains what happens to your data in each way you can run it. The short version: we store as little as possible, and nothing you say or show is kept on our servers.

Who is responsible

Splainer is made by Shadow Lancer in Sweden, which is the data controller for the Splainer website and Splainer Cloud. Contact us about privacy at enterprise@shadow-lancer.com.

What stays on your PC

When data leaves your PC

You choose where each feature runs: chat, image understanding, speech recognition, spoken narration and voice conversations.

Screenshots are taken only when you ask about your screen or a task needs to see it, and they go only to the service chosen for image understanding. Browser and connected-account tools you enable may contact the websites and services involved.

Service providers we use

Some of these companies are based in the United States. Transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Legal basis

We process account and usage data to provide the service you signed up for (performance of a contract, GDPR article 6(1)(b)), and logs and abuse checks for our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure (article 6(1)(f)). Billing records are kept to meet legal obligations (article 6(1)(c)).

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected, have it deleted, restrict or object to processing, and take your data elsewhere. Deleting your account removes your profile, devices and usage records, except billing records the law requires us to keep. Email us and we will answer within one month. You can also complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).

Children

Splainer Cloud is for people aged 13 and over.
